St. Jude Catholic Church Eugene OR

St. Jude's Catholic Church in Eugene OR welcomes people of all ages and stages:
young adults, families, seniors and visitors alike.

Nestled on a hilltop in South Eugene, with a sanctuary enclosed on three sides by full length glass panels, we look out at our beautiful rock garden and our 10’ tall Risen Christ, with Spencer Butte in the background.  Our masses are blessed by the view of God's world and are often visited by God's creatures - deer, birds, wild turkeys - outside our windows!

We invite you to join us for Mass | Make sure you bookmark our new website https://www.stjudeeugene.org/

St. Jude's weekend mass is live streamed on our Facebook page.  Just click the link below and scroll down to the "Videos" section. And see all our other St. Jude postings as well!

"We, the people of St. Jude Parish, are a faith community who choose to come together to experience God’s love in the Roman Catholic tradition. Our fundamental mission, as a sacramental people, is to live the gospel in a way that makes us known for our love. As a diverse and inclusive Church family, we seek to provide opportunities for the growth of the whole person at all age levels and social strata. We strive to celebrate the gifts of each person, and together serve one another and our world. We invite all persons to share in our prayer, liturgical celebrations, education opportunities, social justice efforts, social activities, and Parish support. We ask God to lead us in our journey as we seek to faithfully respond to the Good News of Jesus Christ."

Dear parishioners,

I am so glad to reach out to you all through this weekly bulletin. I am so grateful to the Lord for calling me to serve St. Jude Parish in Eugene. I express my sincere gratitude to you all for giving me a warm welcome and the kindhearted support to begin my ministry here.

Today, I just want to write something about my early life, my vocation and my priestly journey etc. I was born in 1977 in the small town named Sindalacherry in the Archdiocese of Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu. This is one of the southern states of India, surrounded by other states like Kerala, Karnataka, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh.

My home parish church is Sacred of Heart of Jesus which is based in Sindalacherry. This is one of the traditional catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Madurai. This parish has about 3000 catholic families. This parish is richly blessed with many vocations to priesthood and religious life. This particular parish has contributed about 90 priests and about 200 hundred religious brothers and nuns to the universal church. They are all serving the Lord all over the world. I am so blessed to receive my faith in this traditional Catholic parish.

I lost my beloved parents in the year 2007-08. I have two elder sisters and an elder brother. They are all married in the church and have their children raised in the Catholic faith. I have 5 nephews and 2 nieces. 4 of the nephews and a niece got married in the church and have their children. So, I have 4 grandnieces and 5 grandnephews.

I went to the Catholic school at my home parish and was taught by the nuns of the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception. I joined the seminary in 1996, joined the Religious Order namely “Heralds of Good News” and was ordained in 2006. After my ordination, I studied my master’s degree in theology and taught in the seminary.

From 2007-09 Master’s Degree in Theology, from 2009-10 Vice Rector at Heralds Seminary, from 2010-2013 Formator and Professor at St.Joseph Seminary, from 2013-2021 Pastoral Ministry in the Archdiocese of Denver, CO, from 2021-2024 Vice Provincial of MQA Province of Heralds of Good News, 2024 – pastoral ministry at St. Jude in the Archdiocese of Portland.

This is a short introduction about my life, vocation and priestly journey. As I begin a new chapter here at St. Jude, I pray that the Lord gives me the strength to carry out this ministry of service to each one of you to the best of my ability. At the same time, I humbly request you all to keep me in your daily prayers for my spiritual journey and service to this beautiful parish in Eugene. May God bless you all!

Fr. Francis, HGN

ALTAR SOCIETY
Thank you to everyone who took a gift tag off the giving tree and bought clothing, blankets, and diapers. Denise from First Place will come by on the 23rd to pick up all the items! Your generosity is always deeply appreciated, and your gifts make a difference in many lives.

ST. VINCENT De PAUL
Thank you to everyone who donated to and helped prepare our spaghetti dinner at First Place Family Center on December 11th. The families loved the wonderful spread! Our next dinner will be January 8th and we will serve warm comfort foods like soup, chili, and chili dogs (which were a hit last time!)

Please contact Vickie McGillivray at 541-729-3049 (call or text) or vmcg3464@gmail.com if you would like to donate soup, chili, hot dogs, hot dog buns, or fresh fruit. With your continued support, we have served these meals monthly for four years, providing joy and comfort for many families.

We are collecting canned food for the Christmas food boxes that St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County will be distributing.  We are looking for canned vegetables, chicken broth, cranberries, stuffing, cookies, really anything that would be needed for a holiday meal.  There is a basket at the back of the church for your donations.

Help support Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference by purchasing a Safeway/Albertsons gift card.  Our conference receives a small part of the gift card cost.  We are offering $25 and $50 cards.  You can buy these for yourself or donate one for us to distribute at our home visits. These cards will be available after Mass today at a table outside.

COLD WEATHER SHELTER DRIVE
This Catholic Community Services drive helps to provide shelter and warm materials to those who most need them in our community. We are accepting donations from Jan. 6th to Feb. 28th. If you can bring something to donate, we would greatly appreciate it!
